Despite not getting off to a promising start initially, Abigail turned out to be a good mother. She took personal responsibility for her children’s education.
That didn’t mean they enjoyed school. Anita, in particular, detested it.
She much preferred to play the piano (which her mother also instructed her in).
Simon liked to read.
He also took great joy in playing chess against his grandpa, who was trying to gain as much knowledge as possible in his final years and could often be found at the chess table.
One night as Talin was preparing for bed a chill came over him…
As he said his prayers he became aware of a presence in the room…
that of the Grim Reaper. Too soon! He tried to argue. But it was no use, he was escorted to the next life.
Hearing him cry out, Abigail and Elizabeth went running to his room, finding that they were too late – he was gone.
Elizabeth was distraught at first, but when she discovered that Talin had left her more money than her sister (making up for when their mother had left more for Abigail), she immediately felt better. She decided to continue to embrace life because one never knew when it was going to end.
“Life is a Cabaret. old chum,” she told the cat. “Life is a Cabaret”
Abigail on the other hand didn’t handle Talin’s death well at all. She withdrew into herself completely, spending hours sitting in Talin’s old room and reading.
Little Simon had to go and ask the old butler what “death” meant.
Where is Grandpa? I want to play chess with him!
Orlando had to step in with taking care of the children.
Meanwhile Talin came back as a ghost. He returned to the site of his death and wept for how few of his life’s goals he had accomplished.
It seemed that he, too, would he haunting the Legacy grounds.
